Today's knowledge share is about Germline Editing

So, imagine you could create the type of human we want. Whoever, whatever. For those looking for the perfect man or the perfect woman, here is your chance. Just like Kyle XY the movie (don’t ask me, just go watch it), you can choose features of body parts you want, make him/her resistant to a disease e.g HIV AIDS, for people who like it bare. (If you know, you know). This is called Germline Editing. Don't mind the big word. It just means editing your man's sperm or your woman's egg or somebody else embryo with the purpose of making genetically-modified children or children that meet specific characteristic features. Simple. It is almost like editing an MS Word document.

Do I smell fear? or Excitement... Ahh, a little of both, or perhaps “end-time things” Well, this can be a good and bad thing. Imagine me telling my gynaecologist that I would like my baby girl to have blue eyes, pointed nose, long black wavy hair, oval face, long legs, big boobs, wide hips and some others. Just imagine how my girl will be – I will just open a website for her and be collecting suitor’s application, that is even if you meet the required competencies.

Another good thing – it can also preserve the human race, instead of people dying in war or peacekeeping mission, we know these people have “odeshi”, we can send them, or to space or thread those dangerous space mortals are scared off.

Bad thing – Our Naija people will manipulate it and do evil. Ohh, I trust them. You will just hear that a baby came with the head of a monkey, half lion and half human. One state that has a comparative advantage in that will not let it rest. That's how they will put our enemy there and we will “born” it.

But that's just one, the second one is that people can manipulate it and create mutations, you know those superheroes that have superpowers, we will see different kinds... Someone that has wings and can fly and rob the bank in the day. or someone that is invisible or someone that cannot die... Too many, I can't even think.

Thing is everything can be used for good or bad, that is why there needs to be a regulation to monitor and control it. Right now, people are calling for it to be moratorium-ed. Which basically means put on hold so that people don't take advantage of it, well except for research purposes. Good thing, right? I know.
